A bit of history

The X-class, also known as the Jellicoe class or 14 footers were very popular in New Zealand in the early 1900's. The x-class was designed in 1918 by Gladwn Bailey (son of the famous Chas Bailey Jnr) They were a one-design class designed for a crew of between 3 and 4 people.

The basic dimensions are:
LOA 14' (not including bowsprit)
Beam 5'9"
Mast: 18'
Sail area Main - 130sq.ft
              Jib - 20 sq.ft

The "Iron Duke" at the Auckland Maritime museum (built 1920)
IRON DUKE, owned by Lord Jellicoe (Governor-General 1920-1924), was instrumental in establishing the X Class in New Zealand. Lord Jellicoe’s involvement lent the X Class, also known as the ‘Jellicoe’ Class, high status. With the establishment in 1921 of the Sanders Memorial Cup for inter-provincial yacht racing, the X Class became the premier New Zealand centreboard class, a status it retained until the 1950s. http://www.nzmuseums.co.nz/account/3358/object/2250/IRON_DUKE_X_Class_yacht
